Recently there has been a blog buzz about the Baby Dipper feeding set, which comes with a rounded triangular shaped bowl and spoon. The purpose of the odd shape is to help aid the baby food in converging at the point of the triangle for an easy place to scoop from for moms, and later for babies as they begin to self feed. The bowl is sloped as well, to further aid the pooling of food toward the point.
The base of the Baby Dipper is rubberized and is non skid. And when I say non skid, I mean it. This bowl is not going to slip around and be easily knocked around by your toddler. It will stay firmly in place unless your child is able to grasp it and throw it. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen.
The spoon is my favorite feature. it is made to go with the bowl, and when you take a break from feeding your baby you can rest it inside, it isn’t going to flip over. I have become extremely frustrated with a certain brand of spoons I bough for feeding my son. They always flip over and make a mess! It also has a rubberized grip and is wide, which is going to come in handy for older babies when they begin to self feed.
When I have used the Baby Dipper to feed my son, it has made one handed feeding a breeze. Just position it next to you with your food, and scoop towards the point. You don’t have to scrape all over the bowl for the last morsels, you can just keep scooping. Once you are towards the end you will have the remainder of the food pooled into the point at the end. This will be the same for toddlers as they feed themselves.
Drawbacks: Yes, there are a couple drawbacks to this product. First, it has to be hand washed. For me, this isn’t a big deal since I mostly hand wash my dishes anyway. But, I am in the minority. If you just can’t possibly hand wash any dishes, don’t buy this product. Second, it was insanely hard to unpackage. The bowl was vacuum sealed into the plastic, so well, that it was like another mold of the product. It took me and my husband to free it. Third, if you have a few of these they will be taking up some cabinet space since they don’t really “stack” up. ***Edited to add that this product is not BPA free, but is Pthalate and lead free and meets CPSIA standards. I would like for it to be BPA free, however, and I would like you all to know this as well.***
None of those drawbacks would prevent me from purchasing a Baby Dipper, they are just minor annoyances. I would love to see the Baby Dipper come out with more colors also!
